PRP Treatment For Hair

PRP is a relatively new procedure that helps people who are struggling with hair loss. In this treatment, blood is drawn from the patient first.

Then, some special processes are applied to this blood which we will explain in this article, and finally, the blood is injected into the relevant body tissue.

Who Is A Good Candidate For PRP?

PRP hair treatment is a procedure that can be applied to both women and men. Almost everyone can use this method. Rather, it is preferred by people who have regional hair loss problems and experience male pattern baldness.

The patient must be over the age of 18, however, the final decision will be made by the doctor. It is also important to answer the question "to whom PRP cannot be applied".

For those with a history of cancer, expecting a baby, blood-related diseases, who have to use blood thinners, or have an intense infection around the site where hair treatment will be applied, this procedure is generally not recommended. Other than these, the treatment is extremely easy and safe.

    What Is PRP?

PRP stands for "Platelet Rich Plasma".

It can be explained as the injection of the “platelet” in the blood into the scalp.

As an answer to the question "What are platelets", it can be said briefly that they repair cells in the blood".

A special serum containing platelets is derived from the patient's own blood and injected into the scalp where the hair is shed.

The main purpose is to nourish the scalp and minimize the problem of intense hair loss.

    PRP Hair Treatment

First of all, it should be noted that PRP therapy has a wide range of uses. It is preferred to heal many problems from knee calcification to shoulder pain and to reduce the problems on tendons, muscles, etc. During the process of PRP hair treatment, the patient is first examined.

Medical tests come into play at this point. Blood is drawn from the patient (usually 10 ccs), the substances in the blood are separated by special methods, a serum form containing platelets is obtained, and this serum is applied to the hair follicles.

The operation takes an average of half an hour and the patient does not feel any pain. After the treatment completes, the healing process of the hair follicles starts.

    PRP Hair Treatment Recovery Process

PRP hair application is applied in 3 to 5 sessions and is done within two weeks to 1 month. Sessions’ duration may vary depending on the type of hair problem. After the treatment, the results become evident, however, full recovery is observed after about 3 weeks. The results last for a long time but are not permanent. The doctor may want the procedure to be repeated every 3-6 months. This period may be longer. Factors such as nutrition and hair care are effective on the duration of the PRP effect. After the treatment, which helps restore hair growth, the patient may feel tenderness, swelling, mild pain, and a headache. These side effects are normal and will go away in time.
